How to take a readable math photo

Place the page on a flat surface and photograph it straight on. Use even light without glare or hard shadows. Focus on the symbols rather than the desk around them, but do not crop away instructions that control the answer.

  • Fractions, radicals, subscripts, superscripts, and negative signs are sharp.

Recognition limits that require a human check

Similar-looking characters can be confused: 1, l, and I; 0 and O; x and a multiplication sign; or a short minus sign and a fraction bar. Faint pencil, crowded matrices, stacked indices, unusual notation, and unlabeled diagrams also need careful review. If the notation is easy to type, the typed math solver gives you more control over the exact prompt.

Should I crop the photograph?

Crop unrelated space, but keep the entire question, its instructions, units, diagram labels, and answer requirements. A tight crop that removes context can produce a mathematically correct answer to the wrong question.

Can the photo solver read handwriting?

Clear, separated handwriting is easier to interpret than faint or overlapping work. Review every recognized sign and number, especially exponents, negative signs, decimal points, and variable names.

Can I upload a geometry diagram or graph?

Yes, when labels and scales are readable. Because a drawing may not be to scale and visual relationships can be ambiguous, include any written givens and independently check the theorem or equation used.

What should I remove from a photo?
