It is a calculator that behaves differently from the one you practised on, or a formula sheet that does not have the formula you assumed would be there. Find out the rules first, then rehearse inside them. If your exam allows a scientific calculator but not a graphing one, practise on the scientific calculator and stop reaching for the graph. If it gives you a formula sheet, print it and use only that, so you learn which formulas you have to carry in your head. The formula library is for filling those gaps before the day, not during it.

A calculator you fumble with costs you more marks than a topic you half know.
- Know where the angle mode is and check it before every trig question.
- Know how your calculator handles a negative sign versus a subtraction sign.
- Know how many decimal places it shows and how to change that.
- Practise entering one long expression in a single line without brackets going wrong.
- Try the same routine on the four-function calculator if your exam limits you to one.
Build one honest rehearsal
A rehearsal only works if it is uncomfortable in the same way the real thing will be. Sit down at the actual start time if you can, set a timer for the real section length, put your phone in another room, and do not stop. Do not look anything up. Do not fix a question you know you fumbled. The point is to find out what happens to your pacing and your nerves under a clock, and you cannot find that out if you keep pausing. A review that ends in a list of feelings changes nothing. A review that ends in three specific tasks changes your score. Take the two or three causes that cost you the most marks and turn each into one concrete job for the week: one skill to relearn, one habit to practise, one pacing decision to test in the next rehearsal. Then re-solve every missed question from a blank page, without looking at the solution, and confirm it with a different question on the same skill from the practice library.
